Sátão, a region typically linked to religion, has a vast amount of religious architecture all over the county. Among the convents, sanctuaries, chapels we can highlight the Sanctuary of Nosso Senhor dos Caminhos, located in Rãs, parish of Romãs, the Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora da Esperança, located in Abrunhosa, parish of S. Miguel de Vila Boa and the Convent of Santa Eufemia, located in the place of the Convent in the parish of Ferreira de Aves.

All these religious spaces have a history that over time has been passed down from generation to generation. The Capela de Nossa Senhora da Esperança is one of the most impressive temples in the region due to its colors, the paintings on the ceiling, the tiles worked with scenes of everyday life at the time (from the 18th century), and, of course, the still-preserved pipe organ. .

Located in Abrunhosa, in S. Miguel de Vila Boa, in the municipality of Sátão, the Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora da Esperança attracts many onlookers who hear about this well-kept secret. Different architectural and decorative styles can be identified, such as Mannerist, Baroque, Rococo and Johannine. Legend has it that during the casting of the bells that mark the tower of the Sanctuary, Canon Luís Bandeira Galvão threw some gold coins, which guaranteed a different and richer sound to the two examples still preserved today.

Senhor dos Caminhos Sanctuary
 Rãs - Satão

The Sanctuary of Nosso Senhor dos Caminhos is located in Rãs, parish of Romãs, Decermilo and Vila Longa and was built in the early 19th century.
Here you will find a large chapel, several bandstands, a smaller chapel (Nossa Senhora dos Verdes) and even a set of 15 columns. Do you know the history of these columns?
They were built to support a roof that would serve as a resting place for pilgrims and on the day of the pilgrimage (8 Sundays after Easter) to place the litters. There are those who say that the roof was stolen, but everyone says that there was not enough money to finish the work.
