Nelas is a Portuguese village in the district of Viseu, located in the province of Beira Alta, Centro region (Beiras Region) and sub-region Viseu Dão-Lafões, with about 14000 inhabitants.
It is the seat of a municipality with an area of ​​125.71 km² and 14,037 inhabitants (2011), subdivided into 7 parishes. The municipality is limited to the northeast by the municipality of Mangualde, to the southeast by Seia and Oliveira do Hospital (in the District of Coimbra), to the west by Carregal do Sal, and to the northwest by Viseu.

Located in the center of the Dão Region, between the rivers Dão and Mondego that wind along the mountains of Caramulo and Estrela, the Municipality of Nelas enjoys a privileged location, surrounded by green landscapes, where the pine forests and vineyards of Dão predominate, gardens that hide the art of Portuguese tiles.

With a rich and varied heritage, the Municipality of Nelas is famous for its famous and exquisite wines, as well as for its excellent cuisine typical of Beira.

The municipality of Nelas is located in the Planalto da Beirão. To the South and East by Serra da Estrela, Serra Açor and Serra da Lousã; and to the west by the Serra do Buçaco, the Serra do Caramulo, the Serra da Freita, and the Montemuro mountains. It is bathed, to the southeast by the right bank of the river Mondego with its sources in the Serra da Estrela, to the northwest by the left bank of the river Dão.
With topology between 256 meters and 467 meters in altitude and a total area of ​​124.57 km².
Climate
They have a Mediterranean climate, with mild summers. Days with more than 30 centigrade occur with some frequency, about 40 a year on average, and summers are dry, but with cool nights. Winters are relatively cold and rainy, with days below 0 centigrade occurring with relative rarity, 15 per year.



Economy
It is a predominantly agricultural region of vineyards, orchards, olive groves, and pine forests. The Municipality of Nelas is located in two Demarcated Regions of Portugal, where the well-known and renowned Dão wine (being its region of origin), some characteristic sweets, and excellent Serra da Estrela cheese are produced.

The medicinal use of the waters of Caldas da Felgueira dates back to the beginning of the 19th century and in 1989 a phase of major renovation begins, and given the good results, in 1995 the remodeling and expansion of the Thermal Spa began. In early 2007, Companhia das Águas Medicinais da Felgueira was acquired by Patris Capital, which adjusted its offer, concept, image, and communication to the needs of modern times.
