Lamego is a Portuguese city in the district of Viseu, North Region, and Douro sub-region, with 12 214 inhabitants (2011) in the urban center and 26 691 inhabitants in the municipality (2011). The municipality is located on the south bank of the Douro River. It is considered a historic and monumental city, as it has a large number of monuments, churches, and emblazoned houses. Being the seat of the Portuguese diocese, it is the only seat of the diocese outside a district capital.
It is the seat of a municipality with an area of ​​165.42 km² and 26 691 inhabitants (2011), subdivided into 18 parishes. The municipality is limited to the north by the municipalities of Mesão Frio and Peso da Régua, to the east by Armamar, to the southeast by Tarouca, to the southwest by Castro Daire, and to the west by Resende.

The municipality's main activities are services, commerce, and agriculture. The latter represents an important source of wealth, coming mainly from the wine sector, since the municipality, like the rest of the region, is integrated into the Douro Demarcated Region. In addition to the production of Port wine, there is also a clear commitment to table wines with Controlled Denomination of Origin (DOC) and the production of sparkling wines, which are assumed as an important promotional poster at the national and international level.
Lamego's business fabric is made up of small units, with few medium-sized units. Employment is low qualified and low, the volume of business and the wealth generated have a relative representation. The monumental and religious tourism sectors have been growing steadily, and it is in them that some potentialities are identified, with some of the county's vocations being recognized. The dynamics recorded is sufficient, although there may be improvements in this sector. This situation was reinforced with the recent conclusion of the A24, assuming this infrastructure as a determining factor in attracting regional demand.
Lamego has two large commercial areas, each one with a hypermarket and several stores, three medium-sized commercial areas, and a few hundred traditional stores. Concerning industries, it has a small industrial zone located in the parish of Várzea de Abrunhais.
