Toponymy
At the beginning of the 11th century, with Almançor dead, Christian troops definitively reconquered the lands on the banks of the Douro from the Moors, from Foz to Aregos and Resende, on the left bank. They were Gascos from the Ribadouro lineage and ancestors of Egas Moniz.
S. Martinho, however, continued to belong to the Moorish military defense area of Lamego until the middle of that century.
