The Palace of the Counts of Anadia is located in the Union of Parishes of Mangualde, Mesquitela and Cunha Alta, municipality of Mangualde, district of Viseu.
This manor house was built by order of Simão Paes do Amaral in the first half of the 18th century, and is one of the finest examples of baroque architecture in the Dão region. Today, it is still owned by the Pais do Amaral family.
The property consists of the main house, which includes a chapel dedicated to S. Bernardo, the historic gardens and a forest planted in the 18th century.
The palace still retains many of its original features and, inside, it holds a collection of painting objects, furniture, sculpture and original costumes belonging to the family and the house. Noteworthy are the tile panels that decorate the entire prime area of the house.
It is known by the names of Palácio dos Condes de Anadia, Palácio Anadia and Casa dos Pais do Amaral.

History
The origin of the house of the Parents of Amaral, in Mangualde, dates back to the end of the 16th century.

Architecture
The Palace of the Counts of Anadia comprises a Manor House inspired by Nasonian models, with facades balanced in symmetrical compositions. The design is attributed to Gaspar Ferreira, author of the Joanina Library of the University of Coimbra, and who worked on the neighboring Igreja da Misericórdia de Mangualde, completed in 1724.

Interiors
The interior of the Palace is marked by a vast and significant set of tile panels, whose execution dates back to 1740.

Gardens and Woods
Complementarily with the palace, an agricultural area, a historic garden and a woods are being developed, with more than 30 hectares and located in the heart of the city of Mangualde, fully walled, fully maintaining the original structure.
Gardens, vegetable gardens, orchards and vineyards are harmoniously integrated and an extensive forest, once with deer, completes this set.
The Historic Garden, which is dispersed and far from the house, is connected to it by avenues and paths of boxwood, and has a double function: a leisure space, but also an agricultural area intended to serve the great House. Boxwood assumes a constant presence forming 'careers' to delimit fields and courts. Serra da Estrela remains an omnipresent setting for this property, which is punctuated by plant species and constructive elements of rare beauty and harmony.

In the centuries-old forest, precisely delineated in the 18th century, there is a wide variety of tree species, especially the centenary oaks. In the middle of the leafy forest is an obelisk, built by Miguel Pais do Amaral after the liberation of Portugal from Napoleon. In this woods there is also a lake for peaceful boat rides, a soccer field, a small cemetery for the last rest of the house pets, and a hermitage named after the Friars' Convent.
