PENALVA DO CASTELO

It is the seat of the municipality Penalva do Castelo with an area of 134.34 km² and 7,333 inhabitants (2021), subdivided into 11 parishes.
The municipality is limited to the north by the municipality of Sátão, to the northeast by Aguiar da Beira, to the east by Fornos de Algodres, to the south by Mangualde and to the west by Viseu.

In the parish of Esmolfe, archaeological elements are preserved that testify to the presence of Man, since around the 4th millennium BC, namely the Anta do Penado do Com.
This parish also has a vast cultural heritage, including: the Church of Nossa Senhora da Conceição, the Castro da Paramuna, the votive arula of Eirinhas and the anthropomorphic tombs, whose typology allows them to be situated between the end of the 9th century and the mid-19th century. twelfth century. It is an essentially agricultural parish and its excellent product is the Maçã Bravo de Esmolfe, which is known for its excellent organoleptic characteristics.
